Risk Based Inspection
Expert Module

OVERVIEW
Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Expert uses risk based inspection analysis to identify, assess and map industrial risk that may compromise equipment integrity.
It supports risk management and informs decision making on inspection frequency, method and coverage for all types of pipeline, pipeline equipment and installations; including underground gas storage, full refinery installations, chemical plants and off-shore platforms.
RBI EXPERT
Choice of modules
Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Expert comprises three separate modules:
- RBI BowTie - a qualitative RBI analysis module
- RBI Qualitative - a semi-quantitative RBI analysis module
- RBI Quantitative - a fully quantitative RBI analysis module
You choose the most appropriate module for your analysis based on your experience and expertise, the available data and the level of detail required.
Further Information
RBI BowTie uses the standard bowtie method for risk assessment, risk management and risk communication. This structured method is used to assess risk where a quantitative approach is not possible or desirable; risk is determined by the relationship between an undesirable system state, the threats causing that state and the consequences arising from it. It combines the cause (fault tree) and the consequence (event tree) and is easily understood by a non-specialist.
RBI Qualitative makes use of descriptive data compiled using your engineering experience and expertise and is used to assess an equipment and estimate its importance in terms of risk in the absence of detailed quantitative data or when a high level analysis is required to quickly identify the high risk equipment.
RBI Quantitative is based on the American Petroleum Institute (API) standard for Quantitative Risk Based Inspections, API RBI 581, and is used to analyse high risk equipment in detail. An RBI Quantitative assessment requires a large volume of data and resources.
